National Indian Education Association President Ryan Wilson issued a call to action June 2 to Indian Country asking them to defend their Native languages and support immersion programs.
NIEA is hosting a free summit July 12 on Capitol Hill from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
"We urge our elders, educators, tribal leaders, cultural practitioners, youth, veterans, and all those concerned with the future of Native Languages to attend," NIEA said in a statement.
The call follows Wilson's May 25 testimony before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee oversight hearing.
