The good news is: Verizon Wireless will begin to pro-rate its early- termination fee (ETF) sometime this fall. The bad news is: If you're a current Verizon Wireless customer thinking about churning, this won't help you at all.
Verizon Wireless says it's the first major U.S. carrier to commit to a national policy to pro-rate the ETF. The pro-rating will apply to contracts signed or renewed after the policy takes effect, and the amount owed will vary depending on the time remaining in the contract.
