Jul. 2--The pit bull clamped its jaws onto the puppy's neck -- refusing to let go even after a neighbor struck the dog's head with a rock.
Lola, a 4-month-old golden retriever mix, had broken blood vessels in her eyes, three teeth knocked out and the skin pulled from her neck muscles as a result of the mauling Thursday. She will recover, but is scared to go outside, said owner Tiffiney Proctor. Lola was leashed in her yard at 1530 E. Sixth St. when a loose pit bull attacked. Police captured that pit bull and fatally shot another because officers were unable to catch it. The dogs' owners had not been found Friday.
