Jul. 4--Akron voters will decide in November whether to lengthen the terms of ward council members from two to four years -- the same as the at-large council members and the mayor. Akron's 10 ward council members currently run for election every two years. The three at-large members run every four years, but never on the same ballot as the mayor. This allows them to run for mayor and still keep their at-large seats if they lose. The council voted 11-2 Monday night in favor of putting the charter change on the ballot.
