Jul. 4--Wearing a tan shirt, camouflage pants and combat boots, Scott Smejkal doesn't much look like someone who would know how to sew -- much less how to make a quilt. But he is a dad and that is just part of his job. For his family back home in Fort Jackson, S.C., the quilts he has made during the last few years are a reminder of their father and husband half a globe away. "My son carried it around everywhere," said Scott's wife, Sara. "He called it his 'Tractors.'"
