CHICAGO -- The Cook County Board of Commissioners is expected to choose an interim president in August to serve out the term that President John Stroger last week left vacant after announcing that he would not seek re-election in November for a fourth term.
Stroger resigned his seat as commissioner for the county's fourth district and as president, effective July 31. He withdrew from the November election as the Democratic candidate for president of the board. The announcement ended months of questions about Stroger's ability to serve out his term or seek the office again after he suffered a stroke in March, just before the primary election.
