Supreme Court rules time's up on Hawaii trust claims.

The Hawaii Supreme Court ruled April 28 that while a claim of breach of trust obligations to Native Hawaiians might present a justifiable issue, the claim was barred by a two-year statute of limitation.

Hawaii holds ceded land in trust for five purposes, including "betterment of the conditions of native Hawaiians." The land, including several airports, was originally ceded from the Republic of Hawaii to the United States upon annexation.

The Federal Aviation Administration objected to the diversion of any airport revenue to non-airport use, saying it violated federal law.
