Jul. 5--An original Indian peace treaty document signed in Easton to help bring an end to the French and Indian War sold for $71,500 at a Christie's auction four years ago and was expected to become a centerpiece attraction in a new history museum being planned for downtown Easton.
Instead, the 248-year-old document is at the center of an ownership dispute. New Jersey authorities are laying claim to the document, alleging it was stolen from a basement vault in Trenton between 1937 and the 1950s. And New Jersey Attorney General Zulima V.
