Jul. 1--While many beach-goers lose layers, Carrie O'Brien wears a hat and plenty of clothing, slathering sunscreen on herself and her 16-month-old baby, Tara.
After four bouts with skin cancer, O'Brien, 41, has long since changed her habits. She no longer is among the millions of people who lie out in the sun to get a tan.
But her concern about possible skin damage doesn't keep the Los Angeles resident from the beach. On a hot day two weeks ago, she and some of her family visited Marina Park in Ventura.
"I think they (the children) have a better start than we did," O'Brien said. "I don't let them leave the house ...
