Posters urge student bystanders to do something about violence.(University of New Hampshire)

The University of New Hampshire is using a new series of advertisements to help bystanders play a more active role in reducing violence against women on campus.

The campaign uses posters showing examples of when students can intervene safely and make a difference, notes Jane Stapleton, an instructor of women's studies. "We are in fact saying you should absolutely do something," Stapleton told CC.

The posters show several situations. In one, a woman is walking down the street while a man drives alongside her yelling cat calls. That poster suggests passersby say something in response. Another poster shows two people hearing domestic violence coming from the room next ...
