THE role of the Air Quality Forum, under the umbrella of the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business, will be to provide guidance to industry and not to function as a policing body, a function that will - by law - be carried out by local and provincial government.
Chamber Chief Executive Officer Andrew Layman said yesterday that a review of the way Pietermaritzburg's Air Quality Forum was structured had been prompted by changes in legislation.
"At the time of its establishment it was desirable for the public and private sectors to co-operate to address air quality matters that were essentially voluntary in nature,"he said. ...
