MURDER galore was the fashion as 1975 wound down.
The front page of POST, August 31, 1975, reported on the killing of a soccer ace.
The top defender of Spearman Lads Football Club and son of a school principal was stabbed to death by an alleged member of the Young Generation gang in Grey Street, Durban.
A friend of the family told POST that 18-year-old Patrick Smith left his Sydenham home to go to a dance at the Himalaya Hotel.
On leaving the hotel after the dance with friends, they were surrounded by a mob that claimed they were from the gang and demanded to know what Sydenham folk were doing in Grey Street.
