Jul. 7--Hoping to avoid construction delays and a further loss of tourist dollars next summer, the Monterey City Council agreed to shut down a portion of Cannery Row for nearly a year to help speed construction of the Cannery Row Hotel. Cannery Row will be closed between Prescott and David avenues from July 24 through next May. Foot traffic through the area will still be allowed and the contractor will accommodate delivery and trash trucks and emergency vehicles.
