The Prime Minister since early April 2001, Ba-Jammal was retained in the February 2006 cabinet reshuffle. In 2001 he had succeeded Abdel-Karim al-Iryani who had been in this post since May 16, 1998. Now Dr. Iryani is a presidential adviser. Until early April 2001, Ba-Jammal was foreign minister and played a key role in the territorial negotiations with Saudi Arabia which led to a comprehensive agreement in June 2000.
