A proactive approach to environmental risks.

Many corporations have found that working with risk managers to develop proactive environmental programs will ultimately lower potential environmental liability, reduce compliance costs and protect the company's public image. Compliance with environmental regulations alone will not remove the risk of environmental liabilities. Therefore, proactive programs should not be based on regulations but should include the company's own evaluations and audits. Some reasons that many companies still have not initiated proactive programs include the lack of a company-wide environmental policy and the lack of a risk-oriented organizational structure.
