SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina _ The opening Saturday of the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehamer is not so much an occasion for nostalgia on Logavina Street, but despair.
The city is haunted with reminders of loss. You can still see the American Express decals with their colorful Olympic-ring insignias on the glass doors of closed restaurants and boutiques.
The 10-story Holiday Inn, which made Sarajevans so proud when it was built to house Olympic VIPs, is pocked with craters made by shells. The only people who stay there are journalists and relief workers.
