Pringles, espresso and a chair, anyone?: In a Taliban area where tea is king, an Afghan who used to live in Seattle opens a coffee shop--and lets customers sit in chairs, the Tribune's Kim Barker writes.

Jul. 10--KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- In this Taliban stronghold, which like the rest of Afghanistan has always preferred tea, the mere existence of The Coffee Shop is a major statement. Customers here can drink espresso, eat Pringles Cheezums or a Twingo Maxbar and read a walking guide to Britain. They can sit at wooden tables and talk politics or poetry. "I opened The Coffee Shop because there are places where you can drink tea, but no places to drink coffee," said Mohammad Naseem, 31, who drank his first cup of coffee after moving to Seattle in his late teens.
