Mpumalanga is investigating the possibility of establishing a R130-million horse racing track in the province.

The track would be the first in the province and would most likely be built in the Highveld because it is cooler than the Lowveld and therefore more favourable for race horses. CEO of the Mpumalanga Gaming Board (MGB) Fortune Sekgaphane said a feasibility study had yet to be completed.

"Establishing a horse racing track is an expensive operation. We have to weigh its role as entertainment against its effect on society," he said.
