Paul Taylor's all-too-short annual New York season almost literally started with a whimper Without the expected conductor taking his place, the lights dimmed the curtain rose, and Taylor's yeasty, mercurial marvel from 1982 called Mercuric Tidings was performed to a tinny tape recording of its vibrant Schubert score.
