CANBERRA, July 11 Asia Pulse - The defence department plans to save more than $A2 million ($US1.5 million) a year on courier services under a new contract announced today.

Senator Sandy Macdonald, parliamentary secretary to Defence Minister Brendan Nelson, said defence was moving to a new national contract for provision of regional and international commercial mail and package courier services.

Senator Macdonald said the successful tenderer was national logistics and transport firm Toll Transport Pty Ltd (ASX:TOL).
