Jul. 12--Karen L. Haver was fired Tuesday as director of the Sovereign Performing Arts Center, three days after she and her husband were charged with growing marijuana in the basement of their Douglass Street home.
"We're in a very, very public business. The corporate attitude is to be clean as a whistle at all times," said Robert Cavalieri, general manager of Reading's downtown civic center, which includes the theater on North Sixth Street and the Sovereign Center arena on Penn Street.
Cavalieri is a vice president of SMG Management, which was hired by the Berks County Convention Center Authority to run the operation.
