Jul. 12--Western lawmakers have been telling Congress for years --without effect --that the federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is too large to be effective. Maybe congressmen will take the word of the judges who serve in the nation's largest federal court. On June 29, 24 federal district and circuit judges who serve in the nine-state Ninth Circuit signed a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter, asking him to support legislation to split the Ninth Circuit in two.
