Jul. 13--Does a NASCAR Nextel Cup win at New Hampshire International Speedway in July lead to a Nextel Cup championship? It has. At least in the era of the "Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup," it has, anyway.
In 2004, Kurt Busch won NASCAR's first Chase for the Cup after scoring a victory at New Hampshire to lead off the second half of the Cup season. One year later, current defending champion Tony Stewart did the same thing. This is an interesting bit of information, and curious when you consider the actual 10-race chase doesn't begin until September, ironically enough with a return-race at New Hampshire.
