Abstract: Epi-illumination microscopy is a useful tool for studying morphology, but its use is limited by a small depth of field. Using digital editing, we have enhanced the depth of field for epi-illumination micrographs obtained for a number of shoot apices. For each specimen, an epi-illumination microscope fitted with Leitz Ultropak dipping cones was used to capture a series of digital images at successive levels of focus. Adobe1 Photoshop1 was used to produce one image by assembling only the focused areas of the image series.
