The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) will begin a $30 million pilot program later this summer at the airport to screen for explosives on cargo that will be transported on passenger planes, providing information on related economic, operational and technological issues.

The Air Cargo Explosives Detection Pilot Program will take advantage of currently available technology, automated explosives detection systems (EDS), explosives trace detectors (ETD), standard X-Ray machines, canines and manual inspections.
