Jul. 18--An independent task force made a passionate plea to Duluth's elected officials, city staff and union representatives Monday night to rededicate themselves to solving the city's mounting unfunded employee retiree health-care debt. ASAP. About seven months ago, the Post Retiree Health Care Benefits Task Force made 14 recommendations -- which the City Council, labor unions, Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Herb Bergson later endorsed -- but none have been implemented so far.
The task force's point-by-point presentation to city councilors Monday did say the mayor, his administration and councilors are making progress. ...
