Akron General Medical Center is charging ahead with its controversial plan to build an outpatient surgery center in Bath Township.

This week, the 511-bed hospital plans to submit a revised certificate of need application for the project to the Ohio Department of Health. The department has agreed to review the application "expeditiously," according to an agreement among the Department of Health, Akron General and a group of 14 physicians who first proposed the project.

It's the most recent twist in what has become a very public turf was between Akron General and the Summa Health System, which consists of Akron City Hospital and St. Thomas Medical Center. ...
