It's a river, people, not a dump.
But you wouldn't know that from the truckloads of trash hauled from the banks of the Willamette River on Saturday. The scores of volunteers who turned out to clean up the back yard shared by Eugene and Springfield think it's worth pointing out the obvious.
"It's bad. The things people throw in the river are incredible," said Jeff Ziller, an Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist who helped shuttle volunteers along the river and picked up a few bags of trash himself. "It just takes away from the experience when you see that much junk on the river. You kind of like to ...
