EMERALDS
Winless in Eugene and losers of four in a row, Yakima threw its ace at the Emeralds.
Cesar Valdez allowed one run and five hits in six innings as Yakima bounced back from three straight losses to Eugene with a 3-2 victory over the Emeralds in front of 4,189 on Saturday evening at Civic Stadium.
Valdez improved to 3-3 and lowered his ERA to 2.50.
"He's our No. 1 guy," Yakima manager Jay Gainer said. "We knew we needed to get a solid game out of him. We needed every bit of it - you see how the game ended. We needed that real bad, and he was the guy to do it."
