Beam Team: That's what the 35 staffers at Benson Woodworking, a timber-frame construction company in Alstead, N.H., proudly call themselves.
And they have reason to be proud. They've been at the center of a timber-frame revival since Tedd Benson rounded the company in 1973. "Growth has been very steady, especially over the last 12 years," Benson says. His company's work is in national demand, and his gross volume has gone from $120,000 in 1978 to $3.5 million today. In addition, Benson has written two books on the subject and is the industry's unofficial guru.
