There is so much beauty in Chinese ceramics overall that the sedate black and brown stoneware made over a 400-year period in China on display at the Taft Museum of Art might fail to be noticed.
But, upon examination of details, the 70 handsome pieces of this early stoneware made during the Northern and Southern Song, Jin and Yuan Dynasties (A.D. 960-1368) are elegant in their utility and simplicity.
"Dark Jewels -- Chinese Black and Brown Ceramics from the Shatzman Collection" is up through Sept. 10. It features utilitarian tea bowls, jars, ewers, bottles and other pieces. They are from North Carolina arts ...
