Jul. 21--Left wing Nils Ekman fell off the Sharks' top line during the playoffs. Thursday, he disappeared from the roster.
San Jose sent Ekman, who scored at least 20 goals and 50 points each of his two seasons as a Shark, to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a second-round pick in the 2007 NHL entry draft.
"The decision was made because of the additions we've made to our team," Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson said, citing the recent acquisition of Mark Bell, Mike Grier and Curtis Brown.
The development of younger players such as Steve Bernier and Milan Michalek also left Ekman, who will earn $1.1 million next season, ...
