Jul. 21--MATTOON -- About 150 National Guard soldiers from Alpha Company, 634th Brigade Support Battalion of Mattoon are being deployed to Iraq for 18 months of active duty.
The 634th, which leaves Tuesday, consists of soldiers based at the Mattoon Armory and all are being sent to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
"They're going to perform a security mission in Iraq," said Chief Warrant Officer Bud Roberts, spokesman for the Illinois Army National Guard.
A ceremony for the unit will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the armory, Logan and Broadway. It is open to the public, and anyone who attends is encouraged to ...
