Unitika Textiles Ltd and Toray Industries Inc are among several Japanese textile companies preparing to market advanced materials for the manufacture of high-performance bathing suits.

Sales of women's garments for recreational swimming have increased significantly, and in response, textile firms have shifted emphasis to materials for athletic wear to be worn at sports club swimming pools. The companies have employed proprietry technologies to make materials that are resistant to chlorine damage and other kinds of wear.
