THEY were the Mersey poets of an earlier age than McGough, Patten and Henri, but just as potent artistic forces in their time, although their fortunes have varied according to fashion.
John Masefield, Herman Melville and Felicia Hemans were all very different writers from different times, but were all touched by their time spent in Liverpool.
"I think they have become imbued with the place through the vivid experiences they had while living here, yet simultaneously bringing something else to the place," says David Stoker, head of Liverpool Public Record Office.
