Jul. 22--COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Drivers on West Broadway in Council Bluffs have slowed down all week to look at the rubble that once was the old Omaha Standard building.
The two-story brick building dating to 1920 was razed to make room for a future commercial development.
Sheryl Garst, director of redevelopment for the Pottawattamie County Development Corp., said demolition of several smaller Omaha Standard buildings started last month.
The corporation, which is an arm of the Council Bluffs Area Chamber of Commerce, owns the property. The corporation works with the city to help rehabilitate blighted areas.
