Jul. 23--Msgr. William Costello rarely missed an evening walk, so it was appropriate that at his funeral yesterday, mourners heard the story of the Road to Emmaus from the Gospel of Luke, depicting two disciples walking with the risen Christ.
"Bill walked that road to Emmaus very freely, very openly, very simply," the Rev. Paul Rahilly told mourners at the Church of St. Anne in Garden City. "He walked the road from Jerusalem as freely, from the day he walked the road Costello Avenue [where he grew up in Bay Shore] until he walked the road Tuesday evening."
