Jul. 23--Look ma, no hands!That is the exclamation you might hear from the city's water meter readers now that the Public Works Department has begun to institute its automated meter reading (AMR) program.

Starting with new subdivisions and covering the entire city over the next half decade, the city plans to install a special battery into meters that transmits information over a dedicated radio band.
