Jul. 24--HARTSELLE -- A rare northern red oak malformed by Indians centuries ago adorns a Hartselle man's pasture, the only path-marking tree known to exist in Morgan County.Paul Prince, 77, and his wife Betty Prince, 72, have known about their Indian marker tree for decades, but recently the couple of 54 years decided to share their historical treasure with others.The Princes called on the expertise of Butch Walker, author and director of the Indian Education Program for Lawrence County Schools, to visit the tree off Targum Road near Hartselle in rural Morgan County.The tree's thick base curves back toward the ground to form ...
