Jul. 24--Bridget Hartigan was born into a legacy of public service as part of a prominent Chicago political family. Her grandfather, David, served as city treasurer and 49th Ward alderman; and her father, Neil, was Illinois attorney general in the 1980s and narrowly lost the governorship to Jim Edgar in 1990. So it seemed natural when she pursued a career working behind the scenes in Democratic political campaigns. Ms. Hartigan, 36, died of melanoma Saturday, July 22, in her family's home in Rogers Park.
