Jul. 24--CLEARWATER, Neb. -- Lynne Trease wrapped her arms around the 4-month-old, breathed in that sweet baby smell and wondered how long Nikki would be hers.
She could dress the girl in frilly pink dresses all she wanted.
But doctors advised that a baby with Nikki's rare condition -- fluid replacing the brain's main lobes -- probably wouldn't see her first birthday.
And common sense told Lynne that a brainless baby wouldn't live long.
