SAN DIEGO -- Both high and low mean arterial pressures (MAP) are significantly associated with a poor outcome in patients who suffer an acute ischemic stroke, according to a new Canadian study presented here at the 2006 annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology. "As far as we know, we are the first ones to show there is a U-shaped relationship between initial blood pressure and short-term functional outcome and mortality at 10 days," said lead investigator Mark Keezer, a medical student at McGill University in Montreal.
