Here are some of the most common forms of financial aid. Students can learn how to apply for these grants or loans by going to their high school guidance counselor, the local library or calling Nellie Mae, a national loan service, at (800) 988-4846:
_Federal Pell Grants: A maximum award of $2,300 is available to students whose Expected Family Contribution is less than $2,100.
_Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants: A maximum award of $4,000 is available to students with exceptional financial need.
_Federal Work Study: Provides on- or off-campus jobs that pay at least minimum wage.
