Jul. 26--Most Romanian parents still prefer to use physical punishments as disciplinary methods; beating, slapping, ear grabbing, hair pulling and shaking represent two thirds of the total number of punishments the children under seven have to face, according to an UNICEF study made public yesterday.
The "knowledge, attitudes and parenting practices in Romania" survey reveals the appalling fact that even if they acknowledge that playing is the best way to educate a young child, 95 percent of the parents interviewed by the UNICEF experts use this method for disciplining their babies.
