Jul. 26--Football remains king, but soccer is making headway in Southeast Tennessee, soccer officials said. Greater Cleveland Soccer Association records show the number of children signing up for recreational soccer in the Cleveland area has almost tripled, from 150 in 1992 to more than 500 in 2005. In Bledsoe County, local groups are building a five-field complex to serve young soccer players, officials said. "The increase over that 15-year period is huge," said Dan Bennewitz, director of coaching and player development for the Greater Cleveland Soccer Association.
