Jul. 27--The four-county Milwaukee area had its second month in a row of year-to-year employment gains in June and kept its unemployment rate even with a year ago at 5.5%.

Preliminary numbers released Wednesday by the state Department of Workforce Development suggest mostly seasonal growth in payroll employment, including increased jobs in construction, manufacturing, and leisure and hospitality.

A net gain of 4,600 non-farm jobs since June 2005 followed a 2,600 increase from May to May, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Milwaukee area accounts for 29% of the state's non-farm employment.
