Jul. 27--Dog bites are up more than 50 percent from last year -- with pit bulls accounting for 38 percent of all incidents, enough to concern Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control officials. Pit bulls also comprise 24.5 percent of the dogs entering the animal shelter. Peggy Bender, humane education specialist for Animal Care and Control, believes that's an indication pit bulls are becoming a fad. "It seems like the pit bull has grown in popularity.
