Reviewers often more pathetic than the show
"The Critic," a new animated sitcom on ABC (Wednesdays), was virtually guaranteed to receive good reviews. After all, reviews are written by critics, and wouldn't we all love to see a TV show about ourselves?
The titular cartoon protagonist of "The Critic" is a Manhattan-based movie reviewer named Jay Sherman who hosts a show called "Coming Attractions." Played by "Saturday Night Live" alumnus Jon Lovits, Sherman is a critic not unlike Roger Ebert, but without either his hair or his sidekick.
