The life and legacy of the late legendary dancer Katherine Dunham was celebrated in memorial tributes in Washington D.C., her adopted hometown, East St. Louis, IL and St. Louis.
Dunham died in her sleep at her New York City home at age 96 where she had lived for the last seven years (Jet, June 5).
Among those celebrating the world-renowned dancer-choreographer and activist during tribute at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., were actor-activist Danny Glover, New York Congressman Charles Rangel, California Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Haiti Ambassador to the U.S. Raymond A.
