The recent report on the replacement of uranium by thorium for use in reactors (C&I 2006, 12, 6) highlights an idea similar to that of US teenage chemist David Hahn.
Hahn became famous in 1994 after it was discovered that he had built a prototype nuclear breeder reactor in his garden shed not far from Detroit, Michigan.
